Dunkin Donuts Verses Starbucks

CBS news reporter, Rome Neal states that, 50% of all Americans begin their day with coffee. Most Americans drink among three to four cups a day. Rome Neal points out that about 330 million cups of coffee are sold daily (Neal, Rome). Over 4 million cups of coffee are sold from Starbucks Coffee Company. Starbucks is America’s largest coffee chain with over 8,000 locations (How Many Cups of Starbucks Coffee are sold in America every day?). About 2.7 million cups of coffee are sold at Dunkin Donuts (Hoy, Peter). Dunkin Donuts has about 7,000 locations in America (Censky, Annalyn). There is more to these two coffee corporations than their specialty coffee beverages. Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks differ in their product line variety, price, and atmosphere.

Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks are diverse in their product line variety. Dunkin Donuts has only one brand of coffee that is marketed merely as Dunkin Donuts’ coffee. Starbucks has a wide variety of coffee that is received from all over the world (Starbucks verse Dunkin Donuts Coffee). Each of their coffees has different strengths in caffeine and tastes. Starbucks most definitely gives a stronger boost in caffeine than Dunkin Donuts coffee (Starbucks verse Dunkin Donuts Coffee). Starbucks without doubt offers a more ranging variety of coffee and specialty coffee brew.

Dunkin Donuts name is sneaky, the company first became famous for is coffee before its baked donuts. Dunkin Donuts provides a diversity of coffee beverages, but the company didn’t present lattes, cappuccinos and espressos until 2003 (Smith, Ashley). Dunkin Donuts sells about 52 diverse assortments of donuts (Smith, Ashley). The company also sells muffins, bagels, and a variety of breakfast sandwiches (Smith, Ashley). Starbucks specializes in barista and specialty coffee drinks such as lattes, cappuccinos and espressos. Starbucks has 30 different types of coffee, as well as teas and other non-coffee drinks. Starbucks also provides pastries, fruit cups, salads, yogurt parfaits, oatmeal, and pre-packaged sandwiches (Smith, Ashley). Starbucks delivers a wider assortment of product line variety.

The retail price of Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks companies fluctuate in many aspects of their products. Most customers expect Dunkin Donuts to be the more cost efficient choice, but Starbucks is pretty inexpensive (Starbucks verse Dunkin Donuts Coffee). Statistics show that the total percentile of people who go to a lower-price store such as Dunkin Donuts and McDonalds is 29%. And, 34% prefer Starbucks pricier quality coffee than Dunkin Donuts (Coffee Drinking Statistics). 5% more Americans prefer Starbucks than Dunkin Donuts (Coffee Drinking Statistics). Say a customer orders a regular black coffee from Dunkin Donuts, it costs them only $1.49 (How Much is a Coffee at Dunkin Donuts?). Then customer orders another regular black coffee at as well, but at Starbucks, it only costs them $1.96 (How Much Does Cup of Coffee Cost [at] Starbucks?). Among the two coffees there is only 47 cents difference. If Starbucks has better brew quality, diversity, blends, and taste to the coffee, then the 47 cents is money worth spent.

Atmosphere is another main difference between Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks. A customer wants to feel welcome in the shop, relax, and unwind from a busy day. Dunkin Donuts does not feel like a coffee shop. The store gives an impression of somewhat like a gas station, fast food restaurant, or a convenience store (Starbucks verse Dunkin Donuts Coffee).  . The seating of the store is comparable to fast food restaurant with the benches and tables (Starbucks verse Dunkin Donuts Coffee).  . Starbucks on the other hand has nice couches and tables. The store is more welcoming and inviting with dim lighting and gentle music playing (Starbucks verse Dunkin Donuts Coffee).  Most customers prefer Starbucks for their homely environment. Starbucks is a great place to meet up with other friends because of its seemingly isolated environment. Another great feature about Starbucks atmosphere is the comfortable setting is an ideal and quiet place to study.

The 50% of Americans that drink coffee every morning should choose Starbucks over Dunkin Donuts (Neal, Rome). Even though Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks both serve good cups of Joe, ultimately they both differ in three areas; product line variety, price, and atmosphere. Starbucks is ultimately the more chosen store. Starbucks is more preferred for the extensive variety of specialty coffee beverages they serve and diverse blends.  Even though Starbucks is a slightly more cost consuming, the quality of the cup of coffee is more worth the money. As a customer enjoying that quality cup in a warm atmosphere is even more pleasurable experience.
